Networking Event DxPx Europe

Under the motto "Ahead of cancer", we are presenting the achievements of the KI-VesD project at DxPx Europe 2026.

The interdisciplinary team from Freiburg and Erlangen has developed technology for cancer diagnostics based on a blood sample (liquid biopsy). The focus are extracellular vesicles – nanoparticles for cell-to-cell communication that all cells in the body shed and that are transported via the bloodstream. These messengers carry many important biomolecules with signaling and modulating potential, e.g., enzymes, chemokines, cytokines, and microRNA. The specific mixture of the vesicles' payload can be analyzed to divulge disease and disease progression.

The KI-VesD team is working on innovative ways to extract and make sense of these tiny blood components, with the goal of getting ahead of cancer.
